            The Preschool Director shall provide a medical form, including a TB test, signed by a doctor in accordance with State requirements, and will be required to undergo a background check. The Director will be expected to work with the pastor, committee, and other church members.

            The By-Laws of First Baptist Church of Gray Summit provide the following description of the Preschool Director (Article IV – Church Program Organizations and Ministries, Section 6 – Preschool, Sub Point B – Administration, Section 2 – Preschool Director):

            “The Preschool Director shall preferably be an active member of First Baptist Church, Gray Summit, MO but at least be an active member in a Southern Baptist church. The Preschool Director shall be employed, and if necessary, dismissed by the Preschool Committee with the approval of the church body. This person shall report to the pastor and meet with the Preschool Committee for policy direction and report current activities, be responsible for day to day operations of the preschool, present monthly financial statements at the regular business meeting, keep day to day records of charges and payments, and prepare an annual budget and other duties as deemed necessary. The Preschool Director shall be expected to direct the ministry of the Preschool as set forth in the job description adopted by the Preschool Committee…”

            In accordance with these guidelines, and supplemental to them, the Preschool Committee identifies five Key Principles that outline the major duties of the Preschool Director:

FAITH

Ensure that the preschool is conducted in a Christian manner. The Director shall comply with all church child safety policies and applicable mandatory reporting laws. 

ORGANIZATION

1. Ensure that the preschool complies with State requirements.

2. Supervise workers, inspect classrooms and buildings, report needs, discipline workers as needed, and maintain records of all employees. 

3. Maintain teacher/student ratio. Be prepared to take a classroom if necessary.

4. Order new toys, equipment, and materials as necessary.

5. Conduct fire, tornado, and earthquake drills as required by State.

6. Interview and present to the Preschool Committee all prospective lead teachers.

7. Schedule special events such as picture taking, graduation, Christmas programs, etc. through the church office. 

8. Determine if school needs to be closed due to inclement weather; notify employees and TV stations. The Preschool Director must notify employees and TV stations by 5:00am if such a cancellation occurs.

STEWARDSHIP

1. Keep all financial and state-required records; make deposits & pay bills.

2. Collect overdue accounts. 

COMMUNICATION

1. Report to the church on preschool status by preparing financial statements at quarterly business meetings.

2. Report any urgent or irreconcilable issues to the Preschool Committee.

3. Maintain a transparent relationship with parents.

4. Train new employees on rules and curriculum.

CARE

1. Administer medicine with written parental consent and determine when children need to be sent home.

2. Ensure that the facility is clean and in good repair (Building & Grounds Team should be notified about any maintenance needs).

3. See that playground fixtures and toys are safe, as well as replaced/disposed of as needed.

4. Work with the cook to prepare nutritious menus and order food. Keep an updated allergy list in sight.

5. Shop for milk, bread, and other items not delivered by the food vendor.

6. See that the laundry is done – sheets once a week and washcloths at least twice a week.

Other preschool-related duties as reasonably required. The Preschool Director is a full-time salaried job. Hours should be staggered during each week, sometimes coming in at 6:00 am and sometimes coming in later and staying until 6:00 pm (or close). Two weeks’ vacation after one year. The school’s schedule includes one week off in July and two weeks off in December/January for the holidays (paid time off for the Preschool Director). Beginning wages are $21/hour. A higher wage may be negotiated, commensurate with experience and education.
